Questions and discussions

Every topic is one of two kinds, chosen when you post and changeable afterwards. Nothing else differs — same forum, same tags, same search.

  • Question — there is a concrete answer. Replies are voted on and you mark the one that solved it, so the thread stays useful to the next person who hits the same wall.
  • Discussion — there is no single right answer. The thread stays open and nothing gets accepted.

What to ask

  • How to express something in the TVBO schema (dynamics, couplings, integrators, observation models).
  • Choosing and configuring a simulation backend, and what each optional extra provides.
  • Connectomes, atlases and parcellations — loading, normalizing, exporting.
  • Using the Knowledge Graph, the Experiment Builder, the REST API or the Python package.
  • Errors and unexpected results, with enough detail to reproduce them.

What to discuss

  • Modeling approaches and their trade-offs.
  • Papers, datasets and methods relevant to whole-brain modeling.
  • Reproducibility, sharing and standards practice.
  • Feedback on TVBO — what is missing, what should change.
  • Introductions, and what you are working on.

How to ask a good question

  • Search first — the answer may already be here or in the platform guide.
  • One question per post, with a title that states the actual problem.
  • Include the model or experiment you are working from, the backend, and the TVBO version.
  • Paste the exact error, not a paraphrase. Code and tracebacks belong in code blocks.
  • Say what you expected and what happened instead.

Answering and replying

  • Answer the question that was asked. Use a comment to request clarification.
  • Prefer a self-contained answer over a bare link — links rot, this archive should not.
  • If a question is a duplicate, link the original rather than answering twice.
  • Assume good faith and argue with the claim, not the person.
  • Cite sources for empirical claims, and disclose a conflict of interest when you have one.
  • No recruitment spam, no promotion unrelated to brain modeling.

Voting, karma and moderation

Confirming your email address grants the karma needed to post and vote. Upvote what is useful and correct; on a question, the asker accepts the reply that solved the problem. Karma accumulates as your posts are upvoted and accepted, and unlocks editing and moderation abilities.

A brand-new account's first post is reviewed by a moderator before it appears — a spam gate, not a judgement on the post. Everything after that is published immediately.
